Sherri’s Black Sin” is the tale of a 17-year-old woman-child living on her own with no one to talk to but her imaginary friend/spirit guide, you decide what it is. This entity, only seen and heard by Sherri, teaches her about race, love and self- acceptance by taking on a variety of roles in her life/imagination.

Sherri's Black Sin is a short film based on Hawkins' stage play Sherri which was developed in the Women's Work Project & initially produced by New Perspectives Theatre Company under the direction of Melody Brooks, Director, with Celia Braxton Dramatuge. A girl is trying to cope with her issues, including seeing a fairy named Queen.

An absurd rite-of-passage, Sherri confronts issues of identify and esteem as a young African American woman struggles for inner peace and self-acceptance, with a guide who gives new meaning to “Fairy Godmother”!
